Web 2.0 Tools in the Classroom with Katie Bercury July 2009

     This Web 2.0 mainpage is a wiki hosted by pbworks

     Web 2.0 tools offer a social and collaborative way to interact, interconnect, give and take

     Goal is to set up a Personal Learning Network

 

Tools explored: 

     Podcasting is the creation and sharing of digital audio files and stored in mp3 format online. Can be created on your computer using Audacity, a free download. You can locate podcasts at itunes, npr, museums, etc.

     Wiki-social page easily edited by many within a browser. Use pbworks, wetpaint, wikispaces.Wikipedia is the world's largest Wiki.  

     Blog- a web log, or online journal. Blog writers want feedback from their readers. The orginal post remains unedited. Use blogger or wordpress or edublogs.org

     Social Bookmarking-bookmarks saved online, can be shared with other users Delicious.com 

     Twitter Online communication. Tweets are restricted to 140 characters. See also twitterteacher.com

     Scribd A social publishing site. Service where you can upload documents, books, articles, et al to share online 

          RSS stands for real simple syndication Look at "RSS reader in Plain English" at commoncraft.com.  Allows you to set up a customized page that pulls info from all over, and drops it into a page that updates itself     

 Google Reader is a home for reading a post. Creates a connection between reader and websites.

     Digital storytelling:

          Animoto  music videos for your images and pictures

         VoiceThreads a tool to facilitate conversation about pictures,etc.

     Flickr or photobucket a site to share photos online     

     Diigo  highlight and annotate documents, web pages online  

     Shelfari create a virtual shelf to show off books

     Edmodo a private communication platform built for teachers and students.

       Soshiku a way to keep track of own schoolwork
