Third and fourth graders are taking part in collaborative research projects, working with Mrs. Downes and their classroom teacher, as well and their computer teacher. Third graders are working on Mass. Biographies and fourth graders on Inventions. The students are gathering information from print and electronic resources, taking notes, learning to cite their sources, writing on their topic, and creating a Bibliography. To complete their unit, students create a project using computer technology and doing oral presentations, through which they share their information.
Mrs. Magliozzi and Mrs. Downes were recently awarded a Grant from the Burlington Education Foundation to purchase sets of books with audio CD on many science topics, written at various levels of reading and comprehension. The grant application requested funds to purchase these materials for the four elementary school libraries.
Fifth graders at Fox Hill and Pine Glen Schools continue to read the nominees of the
2009-2010 Massachusetts Children's Book Awards.
If they read 5 of the books on the list below they will be eligible to vote
in March for the award winner of their choice.
There are only two months left before voting time and lots of good books to read!
Classroom ballots will need to be postmarked by March 6, 2010.
These are great reads for the fifth graders of our school.
The 2010 Caldecott winner is: The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney
The 2010 Newbery Award winner is When you Reach Me written by Rebecca Stead.
